Summer Lawn Care Tips
Now that it’s officially summer, we wanted to leave you with a few essential steps to maintaining a beautiful lawn throughout the season!
Mow at the Right Height
During the summer, it is important to adjust your mower height to leave grass taller. Taller grass helps shade the soil, which reduces water evaporation, leads to deeper roots, and prevents weed seeds from germinating.
Water Properly
To keep your lawn healthy, you should water your lawn deeply and infrequently. Watering in the morning and evenings helps prevent evaporation.
Avoid Parking on the Grass
Driving over your grass leads to soil compaction, which can cause numerous other problems.
Use a Sharp Mower Blade
A dull mower blade tears grass, creating uneven, brown edges that provide an opening for disease organisms. A good rule of thumb is that a sharp blade lasts for 10 hours of mowing, after this, you should either sharpen or replace the blade.
Let Clippings Lie
Letting the clippings lie on the lawn is known as grasscycling, and it will save you time, money, and fertilizer.
Control weeds
Applying herbicides and weed control products will help kill crabgrass and weeds.
